2023 Call for Papers to Students and Professors

We are seeking submissions for the 21st annual edition of the Cornell Real Estate Review. For students, a submitted and published article will count one CRP credit towards graduation. Final articles will be 3,000 to 5,000 words (six to eight pages).

Focus of Publication

The Review focuses on the interdisciplinary nature of real estate, blending informative articles on real estate practice with application-based academic research. The Review covers a broad range of issues from the various real estate disciplines including design, business economics, engineering, finance, law, planning, development, marketing, and property management.

Schedule For Publication

November 21, 2022 – Article proposals submitted
December 5, 2022 – Proposals selected
January 9, 2023 – Article outline completed
January 30, 2023 – Initial articles (first draft) submitted
February 8, 2023 – Review of articles completed
March 6, 2023 – Final draft submitted

Submission Guidelines

The Cornell Real Estate Review is a student-managed publication charged with advancing key issues confronting the real estate industry. The Review welcomes well-researched, current articles from professors, practitioners, and students. Submissions accepted for publication will be published online as soon as editorially practicable.

All accepted articles will become part of a permanent, searchable database hosted by the Cornell University Library. The editorial board reviews all submissions and will notify the author(s) of acceptance or provide revision recommendations in approximately six to eight weeks upon receipt. Articles are accepted for review throughout the year.

Submissions are Encouraged for the Following Categories:


Author(s) will describe and analyze developments in their areas of expertise or interest as they relate to real estate. Articles should represent original work, ideas, or research and will be accepted from faculty, alumni, real estate professionals, and graduate students pursuing either a master’s degree or PhD in a real estate-related field. Suggested length is approximately 5,000 words.


Author(s) will address a contemporary issue in a field related to real estate. The submission need not represent original research but should cover a detailed review of a topical issue or opinion. Students (PhD, master’s, and undergraduate students) are encouraged to work independently or in collaboration with a professor or real estate professional. Submissions may include a review of literature regarding specific issues or outcomes from class-based projects such as design or industry/competition submissions. Suggested length is 2,000 words.

Real Estate in Practice

Author(s) will provide an in-depth analysis of a particular project or case. Student submissions are encouraged and may be the product of a semester project, case study, consultation with industry professional, or internship experience. Suggested length is 1,000-2,000 words.

Submission Requirements

  2. A cover page should contain: the title, all authors, the authors’ affiliations, and the author’s mailing addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses.
  3. Preference will be given to submitted manuscripts of original research. The names appearing on the article should be those of the individuals who conducted the research.
  4. Upon acceptance, the author(s) will be requested to sign a publication agreement with a release so that the copyright of the article (or version of article for publication) can be assumed by the Cornell Real Estate Review. (A copy of the agreement is available by request from
