Mr. Campia has been involved in the Real Estate industry since 1971, and engaging with the students in Cornell’s Program in Real Estate makes him feel encouraged about the future of the industry. He is continually impressed by the quality of the students, and believes they exhibit high levels of skill and intellect.
Mr. Campia is currently Chairman of Shagbark Enterprises, Inc., a private equity firm which he established in the early nineties to invest in real estate and energy markets. He also serves as President of Permarina, Incorporated, a marketing and trading firm, which he acquired in 1999, and which is involved in the recreational marine industry. In addition to his commercial interests, Mr. Campia is active in a number of community and public service activities. He serves on the boards of Lake Forest Open Lands, where he is a past president, and Lake Forest Hospital, where he is chair of the ethics committee and a member of the finance and strategic planning committees. In 2000 he and an associate, who now serves as executive director, founded the Maritime Challenge Foundation in Camden, Maine, which provides services and support to women and children who suffer from cancer. He is active at his alma mater, Cornell University, where he serves on the Advisory Boards of the School of Civil Engineering and the Graduate Program in Real Estate, and on a number of ad hoc committees dealing with planning and physical resources.
Mr. Campia has lived in the Chicago area since 1972. He and his wife Karin were married in 1977 and they live in Lake Forest, Illinois with their two daughters.
