Program in Real Estate Hosts Fourth Annual Career Summit

The Program in Real Estate hosted the Fourth Annual Commercial Real Estate Career Summit on Thursday, September 23, 2010 on the beautiful Cornell University campus in Ithaca, New York.  Summit attendees included commercial real estate employers, Cornell Real Estate Council members, Program in Real Estate advisory board members, current students and alumni.

The career summit kicked off with Dr. David Funk, Director of Cornell’s Program in Real Estate presenting the 2010 Fall SelectLeaders/Cornell Job Barometer Report.  Although the national unemployment rate remains high, Dr. Funk shared with the attendees that the Program in Real Estate Class of 2010 successfully found employment opportunities with 90.5% of the class accepting employment offers by mid August with an annual average salary of $95,750.

Dr. Funk’s presentation was followed by the Commercial Real Estate Employer Luncheon and panel discussion, Commercial Real Estate Careers and the New Normal, moderated by Program in Real Estate Advisory Board member Lynn Zuckerman Gray ?75, Founder and CEO of Campus Scout. 
Panelists included Duane J. Stiller ?84, Founder and President Woolbright Development, Inc., Jacob Vallo ?99, Managing Director Reynolds Capital Group, and Benjamin Alex Tapper ?98, Director Eastern Consolidated.  The panelists offered advice to current students and others surrounding job search strategies in the purported era of the New Normal in Commercial Real Estate. 

The final event of the day long summit was an employer showcase highlighting commercial real estate employers from JP Morgan, Prudential, Eastern Consolidated, Wal-Mart’s Strategic Real Estate Finance Group, Urban American and RMS Construction, LLC.  Employer showcase attendees had an opportunity to learn more about the showcase companies including information about possible career paths and future employment opportunities.  Showcase attendees included Cornell Program in Real Estate students and alumni, Associate Real Estate Council members, students with a minor in real estate, as well as other undergraduate students with an interest in commercial real estate.
