PRE Students Earn GTRS Positions
Several PRE students have recently earned Graduate Teaching/Research Specialist (“GTRS”) positions. Each year the PRE provides students with the opportunity to bring their experience, expertise and work ethic to several challenging GTRS positions, while earning much needed income during their studies. The PRE administration carefully considered many highly qualified applicants and are excited to see what the selected students will accomplish in their respective roles.
The newly appointed GTRS staff is:
Conner MacLennan and Hugo Medina - Cornell Real Estate Review (CRER) Editors
Conner and Hugo are responsible for the management, content, distribution and strategy of the CRER and work closely with Executive Editor Dr. David Funk, the editorial board and authors. They also coordinate PRE media and marketing content.

Shawn Duggal - Job Barometer GTRS
Shawn assists in the research and writing of Cornell’s annual Job Barometer and analyzes trends in the real estate industry for PRE.
GTRS students are paid a salary each semester for their work, providing them with income that helps to offset their tuition and living expenses. Many students view the additional income as an added bonus to what is already a very rewarding experience. GTRS Philip Hy expressed this sentiment saying, “Being an GTRS is a great experience in and of itself, and I would have happily done it for free. The fact that the PRE provides financial assistance in the form of GTRS income is icing on the cake”.
GTRS students are required to commit at least ten hours per week to their respective roles. They keep office hours in the PRE office, often becoming involved in a variety of PRE projects throughout the year including recruitment activities and Career Services projects. Their collective contribution to the PRE fosters a strong team dynamic. Said CRER Assistant Editor Matt Legge, “The GTRS team is a tight knit group. We all pitch in around the PRE office and have the benefit of getting to know each other and the PRE faculty and administration much better than we would absent our GTRS experience. I know that when I graduate, being a GTRS will be one of my fondest memories of the PRE”.
In addition to these GTRS positions, second year PRE students are provided with the opportunity to serve as Instructional Assistants for a number of PRE courses and in a number of Teaching Assistance and Support Assistant roles. These students provide assistance to first-year PRE students in the courses that they succeeded in during their first year, and assist in the outreach and Career Services activities of the PRE. Students serving in these positions are also provided with income for their efforts.
