PRE Launches Executive Education Platform

This week the Cornell Program in Real Estate announced the successful launch of its Executive Education platform, which includes professional development workshops and short courses covering current real estate topics and techniques. With this platform, Cornell’s PRE is providing resources to industry professionals to explore critical topics or simply enhance specific skills for professional development. Additionally, these offerings allow participants to stay informed on the emerging trends and niche markets of the industry. The Executive Education platform also provides a degree of flexibility for working professionals by offering courses both in Ithaca and New York City.
The professional development workshops present the opportunity for real estate professionals to learn new skills in an efficient format, as most workshops take place over the course of one weekend. The workshops feature an interactive format and have a limited number of spaces available; some sessions may have maximum class size limits. For example, the Argus Certification workshop scheduled for November has space for approximately 80 participants.
The Program successfully began its workshop offerings by holding an Advanced Real Estate Financial Modeling with Microsoft Excel seminar in August. Daniel Sax, PRE’12, described the experience by saying, “[The] lectures were very organized and systematic – in just two days we got an overall picture of how to use excel in a variety of real estate applications.” The following is a sampling of future workshops:
ARGUS Certification
Real Estate Financial Modeling with Microsoft Excel
Advanced Real Estate Financial modeling with Microsoft Excel
MS Project for Real Estate
Managing Your Real Estate Career
Understanding Investment Opportunities in Distressed Real Estate
Community Development Finance
Due to an increasing number of inquiries, the Program in Real Estate is evaluating the possibility of offering a Graduate Certificate through the completion of a number of workshops. “We are currently evaluating whether such a program is feasible” states Dr. David Funk, director of the Program in Real Estate. If implemented, the Program would require the successful completion of a series of courses focused on a specific skill set.
The Program expects to offer to offer its first workshop in New York City, Excel Modeling for Partnerships, in March 2011. Inquiries can be made directly at the Admissions Office for the Program in Real Estate. For more information on this program please contact PRE Program Coordinator Bryan R. Vliet at bv25@cornell.edu, or (607) 255-7110.
