PRE heads to NYC for 2011 Spring Trek

On March 10th and 11th, the Program in Real Estate will host the 2011 New York City Spring Trek. This two-day event will give PRE students and Associate Real Estate Council members the opportunity to meet industry professionals, participate in industry panels and experience the bustling metropolis that is New York City. The purpose of this two-day trip is to highlight a variety of real estate careers available to students and to provide first and second-year students with an opportunity to network with alumni and potential employers.
In previous years, the NYC Trek has attracted leading firms and has been described by students as a significant source of internship and employment opportunities. Some past participating companies have included The Related Companies, Real Capital Analytics, United Nations Pension Fund, Prudential Real Estate Investors, GE Capital and Urban American. Patrick Nessenthaler, PRE’12, describes the Trek as, “An excellent opportunity to meet with professionals and explore career ideas. The opportunities are endless for real estate professionals in New York City.” The following is brief description of the scheduled itinerary for this year’s trek:
Thursday, March 10
Students will meet with representatives from the International Council of Shopping Centers which is a global trade association with over 60,000 members in more than 80 countries. The ICSC visit will expose students to the complexities of the global retail industry. Participants will then visit Colliers International, a global commercial real estate services company that offers a variety of services including: brokerage, investment services, project management and advisory services. The day will end with the 2011 Cornell Real Estate Council (CREC) Regional Meeting which will take place at the Cornell Club located at 6 E. 44th Street. The regional meeting will include panel discussions from industry professionals and provide an opportunity for students to speak with recent entrants to the industry, as well as senior leaders of top firms.
Friday, March 11
The second day of the 2011 Spring Trek will involve a Real Estate Financial Modeling Workshop held at the Cornell ILR Conference Center. This intensive, two-day training workshop focuses on advanced pro forma modeling techniques, understanding and modeling waterfall distributions, and other real estate applications applied through real estate examples. The workshop will be instructed by Robert Bridges, guest lecturer in the Cornell Program in Real Estate and Assistant Professor at the USC Marshall School of Business. Attendees of the Trek are invited to participate in Friday’s session and are welcomed to attend the second day’s activities.
The Annual NYC Trek has undoubtedly been a memorable event for participants and this year’s trip is sure to be equally noteworthy. All members of Cornell’s Associate Real Estate Council (AREC) are encouraged to participate in the 2011 NYC Trek.
