New Leadership for the Associate Real Estate Council
The Associate Real Estate Council (AREC) elected a new leadership late last semester, and plans are already underway for an exciting and successful year.
Under the AREC charter new office bearers are elected every 12 months. This year’s officers come from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. Benjamin Weissbourd and George Kaneris will serve as Co-Presidents for 2007. Weissbourd is a first year student at the Johnson Graduate School of Management while Kaneris represents the Program in Real Estate. Other Program of Real Estate students engaged in AREC this year include June Yook, who will serve as Vice-President, Jason Moore, the Treasurer, and Deane Lawrence, who will head up the Web Design Team. The final member of the executive team is Kerry Yip from the Johnson Graduate School of Management who will be acting as the Vice-President of Public Relations.
All members of the leadership share a keen interest in the discipline of real estate and their goal is to expand AREC’s influence and presence both on Cornell’s campus and within the alumni network.
“I hope to build on AREC’s successes through collaboration with each and every student and professional who has been a part of AREC since its inception,” said Co-President George Kaneris.
The AREC calendar for 2007 began with a successful welcome back social gathering, and plans are underway for a number of special events in the upcoming year. Such events will include a Real Estate Trek, the invitation of keynote speakers to Cornell’s campus, and social events to build relationships among the graduate students and alumni.
“AREC has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had at Cornell,” said Co-President Benjamin Weissbourd. “I’ve been able to work with people from different programs across the University, learn an enormous amount about the real estate industry, and gain insight into how I want shape my career.”
