Milstein chosen Cornell Entrepreneur of the Year, will deliver keynote address at Celebration
Two days of symposia, panels, and innovative thinking to mark third celebration of Entrepreneurship @ Cornell
Cornell University will hold its third annual campus-wide event celebrating entrepreneurship, April 10-11, 2008. The topics in the various symposia, expos and panels range from nanotechnology to sustainability. Real estate, an industry grounded in entrepreneurship, will be a headliner topic this year, as Howard Milstein ‘73 is being honored as the 2008 Cornell Entrepreneur of the Year. His keynote address on Thursday Friday morning, a panel will convene on "Leveraging Technology in Real Estate Investment," an exploration of the emerging role of web-based applications in real estate investment and brokerage. The second panel, "Entrepreneurship in Real Estate," will examine niche market opportunities and unconventional vehicles for real estate investment. Program in Real Estate affiliates Carl Neuss ’76, Jeffrey Langholz ‘99, and Timm Reynolds will lead the discussions.
Mr. Howard P. Milstein is co-chairman, president and CEO of Emigrant Savings Bank and its holding company, New York Private Bank and Trust, and managing partner of Milstein Properties. Mr. Milstein recently authored an op-ed published in The New York Times, “Give the Banks Some Credit,” outlining his opinion about how to ease the liquidity problems facing so many banks in light of the subprime mortgage crisis. Mr. Milstein is a member of the Cornell Real Estate Council, the Program in Real Estate Advisory Board, and co-chair of the annual Cornell Real Estate Conference.
Mr. Carl Neuss is a principal of the Pacific Cascade Group, has been a Member of the Cornell University Real Estate Council and the Cornell Program in Real Estate Advisory Board. Pacific Cascade Group (PCG) is company that invests equity capital in land planning and real estate development projects throughout California and other select markets of the western U.S. As a partner, Mr. Neuss has oversaw a $1 billion real estate development venture investment with CalPERs as the primary investor.
Dr. Jeffrey Langholz is founder of, Home Equity Share, a company that creates co-ownership opportunities for residential housing. Home Equity Share provides a platform for individual homebuyers obtaining loans from individuals looking to invest in real estate. Potential lenders get to choose the individuals they lend and share in the equity of their home. Prior to his position as CEO and president of Home Equity Share, Dr. Langholz was a researcher at the Monterey Institute of International Studies specializing in international environmental policy.
Mr. Timm Reynolds is presently Chairman of Horizon Genetics Inc., an Illinois firm that develops, produces and markets hybrid and genetically modified corn and soybean seeds for use in production agriculture, and a member of the advisory board and investment committee of Alpha Capital, a private equity firm that invests in small to mid-size companies. Mr. Reynolds has extensive experience in the real estate sector as a result of Horizon Genetics involvement in acquiring, developing, and managing agricultural real estate and as a result of being a significant investor in the office and retail real estate sectors in the Chicago area. He is the father of Program in Real Estate graduate Phil Reynolds ‘07.
