RE Seminar: David Chiazza

On Thursday, January 27, 2011, David Chazzan, Executive Vice President of Iskalo Development Corporation, will kick off the Cornell Real Estate Industry Seminar for Spring Semester 2011. He will discuss development of the Seneca Place, a mixed-use development in downtown Ithaca, NY, that he led to completion in 2005.
Mr. Chiazza has been engaged in the real estate development business for his entire career, which is in its thirtieth year. He is presently a project partner and Executive Vice President of Iskalo Development Corp., a full service, commercial real estate development company headquartered in Williamsville, NY, near Buffalo. Prior to Iskalo, Mr. Chiazza has held positions with Ciminelli Development Company, Benderson Development Company, The Allied Group and Sovran Group. He is also a licensed NYS Real Estate Broker Associate.
Mr. Chiazza has a diverse real estate background with experience in all facets of real estate development, including acquisitions, disposition, leasing, property management, finance and entitlements. His project experience includes a wide array of asset classes ranging from office, apartments, hospitality, industrial, retail, institutional (public projects) and self-storage and involves both adaptive re-use and greenfield projects.
At Iskalo Development, Mr. Chiazza works closely with company founder, Paul Iskalo, to identify new project opportunities and leads the acquisition, project planning/programming, feasibility and entitlement process for all new projects as well as the marketing & leasing activities of the company. Mr. Chiazza also leads Iskalo’s PPP division (Public Private Partnership) which is presently development a regional bus facility in Northern Virginia for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
Notable projects developed by Mr. Chiazza include Seneca Place on the Commons, a mixed-use project in Ithaca, New York anchored by Cornell University; Airport Commerce Park adjacent to the Greater Buffalo-Niagara International Airport in Buffalo, New York and Colvin Woods Business Park in the Town of Tonawanda, NY.
Mr. Chiazza is a lecturer at Cornell University in the Program in Real Estate and served as the co-instructor for the Capstone Course from 2005 – 2007. He is also a frequent lecturer at the State University of NY at Buffalo. Current and past memberships include Urban Land Institute, BOMA, Cornell University Real Estate Council, Ithaca Downtown Partnership and the Buffalo-Niagara Trade and Logistics Resource Group. Mr. Chiazza is a frequent participant in economic development and planning initiatives throughout western New York.
Mr. Chiazza resides in Amherst, NY with his wife, Ellen. He has two sons, Matthew, a revenue manager for Embassy Suites in Buffalo, NY owned by Uniland Development Company, and Eric, a corporal in the United States Marine Corps.
