CONSTRUCTION PLANNING AND OPERATIONS (CEE 595)

This basic course, given in Cornell’s College of Engineering, culminates in a class project known as “bid night.” The course covers the fundamentals of construction planning: contracts; organization of the work site; scheduling; quantity take-offs/cost estimating; bidding; materials handling for construction; optimization of construction processes; applications of computer methods; and the relationships among owners, designers, contractors, suppliers, and developers.

REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS (CRP 532)

The course examines the real estate development process and the role of principals in that process. It includes examination of various forms of development as well as a review of key issues in residential, retail, industrial, office, and low-income development projects. The course looks at the state of the industry, including trends in society affecting future development projects, as well as real estate finance techniques. Methods of financial and market analysis and the roles of various professionals are emphasized throughout the semester. Content includes case studies and presentations by guest speakers.

REAL ESTATE SEMINAR SERIES (CRP 537,TAKEN EVERY SEMESTER)

This weekly course brings students into direct contact with real estate professionals, either as in-person guest speakers or through the use of videoconferences originating from locations around the world. Candid discussion of current projects and industry issues is followed by a question-and-answer session.

PRINCIPLES OF REAL ESTATE (H ADM 620)

This course approaches real estate from four perspectives: legal, economic, financial, and business. Understanding these perspectives enables students to make better investment and financing decisions, to use real estate resources wisely, and to understand public policy issues. The course includes case studies and regular recitation sessions featuring guest speakers from the real estate industry.

MANAGERIAL FINANCE (NCC 556)

This introduction to business finance is based on theory and case studies. Topics include the capital-budgeting decision, portfolio theory, asset-pricing models, capital structure, mergers and acquisitions, costs of capital, option pricing, and international finance.
