Liu Selected to “30 Under 30” List
Penny Liu, Program in Real Estate and MBA Class of 2009, represents a sector of the real estate industry that is unique among Program in Real Estate students.
Liu’s previous industry experience includes work as a highly successful real estate agent in the Rowland Heights, California area. Liu, Broker Associate for Re/Max 2000 Realty, in partnership with her mother, Nancy Liu, also a Re/Max 2000 Realty Broker Associate, managed international real estate transactions for the past three years. Penny Liu worked with American buyers looking to invest in China. Because of her dedication and strong work ethic, the National Association of REALTORS® recognized Liu as one of the thirty REALTORS® under thirty years of age who have made their mark in the industry. “30 under 30,” which printed in REALTOR® Magazine’s June 2006 issue, was also featured on Forbes.com.
Liu’s decision to return to school for a professional degree grew out of her desire to transition from one segment of the real estate industry into another, and Cornell was a logical choice for Liu.
“I wanted to come to Cornell because of the dual master’s program for Real Estate and Business Administration. I want to transition from residential real estate to commercial investment and large scale residential bank repossessions.” While the Program in Real Estate provides Liu depth of knowledge specific to the real estate industry essential to her career goals, the MBA offers her breadth in finance and international business that will position her ahead of her competition.
Liu has had to balance her new academic career with ongoing communication with Re/Max. Liu envisions Re/Max expanding into China and continues to work extensively with them on this venture. Her dedication and industriousness will be significant assets as she balances these two responsibilities.
